About Us

Welcome, my name is Ann.  I am in my early fifties and over the past 35 years have become evermore challenge and disabled with a rare muscle disease. I am now in a wheelchair and  have many special needs for my daily living. As my disease progresses my requirements change, but one worry is constant, how will I fare in an emergency or natural disaster. Concern about my own safety and the safety of others with special needs has inspired me to put together this website that specifically addresses the unique requirements for some special needs populations in an emergency. Currently that includes the physically challenged and the elderly. Emergencies come in different forms but advance planning can lessen their impact. This site includes general information on planning and preparation for emergencies, disaster education and specific available  products and resources  for others with unique needs. Throughout the course of my disease I have  discovered, researched, re-invented and located many items that I have found useful not only in my daily life; but would be appropriate for use in many disaster situations.   For your own needs, for caregivers and employers, I have reference links, information that can be copied from this site and in the future will have special packets that are available for purchase that contain educational materials,  detailed check lists and blank forms for your individual planning and preparedness.  Soon there will be a one-stop, secure shopping for your special needs items at our online STORE.

We all live in parts of the country where natural disasters or man-made emergency situations are possible. Our unique limitations may prevent our not moving as fast or as easily as others, or we may have other special medical or physical needs. We do not need to live in fear and we may never have to face a house fire, natural disaster or or find ourselves in an emergency situation. We must therefore always be prepared at home, at work, and even while away from home for any type of emergency.

Step 1 - Learn About Disasters

Getting prepared can be a simple process or become more involved but whatever you do,  DO IT NOW.

Begin immediately . . .

  • Educate yourself and others about your dangers in your area

  • Evaluate your special needs for a specific emergencies

  • Communicate your needs to people you know and trust

Continue your plan and . . .

  • Create a support group just for disaster situations

  • Outline, in writing, a specific plan

  • Make your surroundings a safer place to live

  • Prepare basic preparations at home and at work

  • Put together Emergency and Evacuation Kits

This website is the beginning of more-to-come. At a later date I plan to offer referrals, resources and site access and information more specific to other needs groups such as the sight, hearing, speaking and mentally impaired.

I would appreciate any advise or input on this idea.

I can be contacted at ann@disasterprep4disabled.com

Thank you, be safe and always be prepared for the unexpected.
